There are a few new places to sit, relax, and take in the fresh air at the Sunset Whitney Recreation Area thanks to the donation of nine benches by the South Placer and Sunrise rotaries.

“This was a great opportunity to enhance SWRA and encourage individuals to get out, exercise, and enjoy nature,” said Ken Broadway, Rocklin City Councilmember and the President of South Placer Rotary.

South Placer Rotary identified the SWRA bench project as its priority project for the year, funding it partly through proceeds raised at the Rocklin Brewfest this summer. Sunrise Rotary later joined the effort and contributed enough money to cover an additional bench.

The City Parks and Recreation team identified sites along the 2.7-mile West Trails where resting places would be most beneficial and coordinated installation in mid-November.

“Staff enjoyed working alongside the South Placer and Sunrise Rotary clubs and appreciated the skilled workers who made the installation of the benches a smooth and seamless process,” said Shawn Darling, Parks Division Supervisor of the City of Rocklin.

SWRA is open from sunrise to sunset every day, allowing residents and visitors to explore the nature in their community.
