Rocklin Firefighters Receive Medal Of Valor Awards

Three Rocklin Firefighters were honored Tuesday night with Medal of Valor awards for their bravery and quick-thinking in saving a life.

On September 19, 2023, the crew of Fire Engine 23A were dispatched to a medical emergency of an individual who had fallen in a second floor apartment. The call for service was made from a downstairs neighbor, who heard the fall from their residence. Once on-site, the crew transitioned into firefighting mode, crawling under the heavy smoke to find the unconscious victim collapsed in the bathroom. The three firefighters in the apartment pulled and carried the victim out of the burning room to begin lifesaving practices. The victim was transported to a local hospital where they were later discharged.

“It is very rare that a City of our size experiences not one, but two of these events within a year,” Fire Chief Reginald Williams relayed to council. “Tonight, we recognize Captain Chris Wade, Engineer Brian Fales, and Firefighter Chris Valenzuela for their heroism, selflessness, and exceptional courage in saving the life of a community member and a citizen.”

The three firefighters were presented with their Medal of Valor awards and certificates of recognition before City Council.
