Reginald Williams Hired as Rocklin Fire Chief
The City of Rocklin has hired Reginald Williams as Rocklin’s next fire chief, and he will begin his new responsibilities on Monday, August 3.
Williams leaves his position as assistant fire chief with the City of San José, where he oversaw 838 employees in the third largest city in California. Williams had been with San José, for 25 years, holding roles also including deputy chief, battalion chief, captain, engineer, and fire fighter paramedic.
The combination of his experience, along with his skillset and education, made him a clear choice for Rocklin.
Abatement on Sunset Whitney Recreation Area Structures Nearly Complete
The Sunset Whitney Recreation Area (SWRA) has become a popular place for Rocklin residents to enjoy the outdoors since the opening of the West Trails in the fall of 2019.
The trails provide a great resource for people looking to walk, bike or just get a little fresh air during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Impact Axe provides a fun indoor activity for family and friends to get together in a safe environment. The business opened early this February, and shut its doors in mid-March after being open for less than six weeks.

We're Open Business Features
Dogtopia of Rocklin offers daycare, overnight boarding, and spa and grooming services for dogs. Since opening in Rocklin last July, the business gained plenty of pet parents that use them for daycare while at work or for overnight boarding when going on vacations. When the coronavirus hit, people began working from home and cancelled their vacations. Dogtopia closed for two months from March 19 to May 19 and lost all of its regular vacation-based boarding, though boarding is expected to bounce back as people begin to travel again.
Coronavirus Crisis Doubles Need for Meals on Wheels Volunteers
The COVID-19 crisis has shone a spotlight on just how quickly people can find themselves without food. Applications for meal delivery from Seniors First, Placer County’s only senior-focused service organization and provider of Meals on Wheels, have more than doubled in recent weeks.
Over 400 clients are served in Placer County per day through Meals on Wheels. Many of Seniors First’s volunteer delivery drivers, some seniors themselves, have been sidelined due to COVID restrictions which has dramatically increased the need for additional volunteers.

Rocklin business owner Neil Henderson of Prospect Wake and Snow is usually focused on crafting handmade skis, snowboards and wakeboards for people headed to the water or mountains. The COVID-19 pandemic quickly ended the ski season, suppressed spring boating, and forced Henderson to close his doors to help slow the spread of the disease.

Pavement Condition Index Scanning
Laser-Equipped Trucks Take Pavement Distress Data
Rocklin is going high tech to assess the condition of City-maintained streets and plan for future improvements. On Monday, April 27, City contractors began a Pavement Condition Index (PCI) Scan, utilizing laser scanners equipped to trucks to take pavement distress data for each of the 565 lane miles in Rocklin.
The laser takes thousands of data points and compiles them to determine the overall condition of each street and lane in the City. The scan will last two to three weeks, and the data collected will inform a five-year work plan.
Rocklin PD now Offers Online Non-Emergency Crime Reporting
Due to the rapidly evolving circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and as an additional convenience to the public, the Rocklin Police Department now offers an online reporting option for the following list of non-emergency incidents where a suspect is not known:
Rocklin Homepage Gets Refreshed Look
Improvements based on analytics
The City of Rocklin homepage at www.rocklin.ca.us has been redesigned to provide better improved access to the information used most by Rocklin residents, businesses and stakeholders.
The changes include a new “Get Started” menu at the top of the page, a streamlined “What’s Happening” news and events section, and more.
A detailed analysis of how web visitors interacted with the current homepage was conducted and update decisions were based on the data collected.

Wi-Fi in the Parks, Sunset Station Development, and Economic Development
Wi-Fi in the Parks
The City of Rocklin negotiated a new agreement to continue providing free Wi-Fi at all five community parks with Wave Broadband LLC. The parks include Johnson-Springview, Kathy Lund, Margaret Azevedo, Twin Oaks Park, and Whitney.
City analytics show that over 22,000 people logged in and used the amenity last year between August 2018 and August 2019. The free service benefits everyday park users and youth sports leagues and their patrons.
Four New Rocklin Firefighters Pinned at Graduation Ceremony
Erik Garside, dressed in 45 pounds of full firefighter gear, dashed from the fire engine, pulled the supply hose and tools out of the back, and lugged the nearly 80-pounds of equipment to the nearest hydrant.
